Roll Out.....

What in the world was I thinking. Loading up the car with three kids, two dogs, and a wife for a road trip to Florida. Who will get voted out of the car first? The difference between this trip and the ones taken when I was a kid are the gadgets. My dad's way of keeping up occupied for the trip was leaving at 2am so we would sleep the first half of the trip. Now that I think about it that is not a bad idea. Between the dvd player in the car and the portable gaming systems I dont think I will have to hear "that" pharse as much. For the last week and a half I have been making sure there are plenty of movies and games to keep the kids occupied for the trip. I do believe I have gotten soft in my old age. I actually make fequent stops now. I used to make everyone in the car hold it because we were making good time. So look our road the Gris...I mean Nickersons are on the road again.

Where are we headed

Things done changed on this side. Remember they used to thump, but now they blast, right? That was Dr Dre from Lil Ghetto boy. I can remember not so long ago that people could sit on different sides of the isle and talk about how they did not like the other sides views. It seems now that people are taking it to the street. After the outburst by SC Rep Joe Wilson people have become bold in their actions to show how much they do not like actions by government officials. In the case of Mr. Wilson you don't have to like or respect President Obama as man but do respect the office of President of the United States of America. The actions of our "leaders" have led many people to speak out in other ways. Spitting, racial slurs, and vandalism are just a few. There are even some who are sending death threats. The one thing that I love about our great country is our ability to voice our opinions. But threating someone for their opionion is another story. It would appear that it is easier to find the phone number of a member of congress than it is to find the number for the board of elections and register to vote.

VA Rep Tom Perriello's brothers home had the gas line cut. Tea Party activist posted the address to the home thinking it was Tom Periello's home telling readers to stop by and express their thanks for his vote. Mike Troxel who blogged the address stated people should have access to their public officials. When asked if the children of public officals should be harassed at their house just because they're related, Troxel said, "You know, I think that's a burden that comes with being an elected offical."

Others left voice messages "Congressman Stupak, you baby-killing mother f---er. ... I hope you bleed out your a--, got cancer and die, you mother f---er," he says.
"You and your family are scum," a man is heard saying in another message. And of course none of these people would ever say racail slurs or spit at anyone.

People stop and think about what you are doing and saying. If this kind of behavior continues who knows where it will lead.

Wake County School Board

Wake County Board of Education voted Tuesday to end the school system's long-standing student assignment policy. The decade-old assignment method buses students across the district to help achieve socio-economic diversity, allowing no school more than 40 percent of students receiving free- or reduced-price lunches. This from an article on WRAL. (http://www.wral.com/news/education/story/7291508/) The board says it is not looking to segregate schools but give parents choices and keep kids closer to home. We as a society segregate ourselves. As much as we have moved forward we still keep certain aspect of our lives separate. Even though we are able eat in the same restaurants and sit any where we want to on a bus. We still go to different churches and buy homes in neighborhoods where people mostly look like ourselves. If we segegrate ourselves in our neighborhoods what would that make our neighborhood schools look like?
